CNEA Argentina
Surrounded by greenery on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, the Ezeiza Atomic Center is a world where science meets creativity, passion and innovation.
The CNEA (Comisiòn Nacional de Energia Atomica) is a world leader in nuclear energy production, from the vital production of radioisotopes to the development of radiopharmaceuticals essential for public health, as well as prompt gamma neutronography and the fight against emerging diseases such as dengue and chikungunya.
In Argentina, CNEA operates several power plants throughout the country, each with different types of reactors depending on the form of energy produced by uranium fission. This process releases neutrons and heat. Power reactors use the heat to generate electricity and are larger in size. In contrast, reactors that use neutrons, such as the RA-3 reactor in Ezeiza, produce medical radioisotopes such as molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) and iodine-131 (I-131) for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes.
Women scientists play fundamental roles and lead key areas of the CNEA, from the presidency to various management positions, making this institution a hub where knowledge transcends gender barriers and innovation thrives through diversity.
